Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 204 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

What is Postmodernism?

Postmodernism is dealing with whats new in today's culture. The world has become more accepting of things and welcoming to new ideas and beliefs. Back when postmodernism was fresh artist would paint about new things, they'd bring new ideas and tactics into their works. In today's world and culture postmodernism is everywhere. A prime example is the necessity of social media. In order to keep in touch with the world people get onto apps on their phones to either watch the news or read a headline or even a trending hashtag. Artists like Lady Gaga captured everyone attention with her style. She wore raw meat as a dress to an award show and her music videos were abstract and hard to understand. Celebrities and even your average person have evolved into openly speaking about their sexuality and sex lives which would have never happened during modernism. People like Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian are embraced as icons. Miley, who brought an inflatable penis onto stage and Kim, whose capitalizes on exposing herself. Religion is playing a huge role in everything being done today. Pope Francis, the first Pope to open his arms to gays and lesbians. Postmodernism is in our everyday life, we question everything that once was practically religiously followed and now embrace the weird, crazy, wild and new everyday.
