Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 204 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

The Judgement
"The Judgement" by Kafka, I felt was a short story that had me in the end asking myself questions. Why was Georg so kept to himself? Why was Georg not involved in his father life/health? Why did it take Georg such a long time to open up to his father about his friend? Maybe if Georg had discussed him writing the letter to his friend in Russia then maybe the ending of the story would have panned out differently; The father would not have had his crazy mental moment and the Georg would have not been banished to dead my drowning. It was discussed in class that maybe the Georg's friend was not a real person at all and he was made up this whole time. After reading the story a second time it seemed to me as if Georg was introverted, he did not want to be bothered with the people around him and he was kept to himself. Which is why he did not have a great relationship with his father or really any relationship at all with his old friends that lives in Russia.
