Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 204 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Metamorphosis
After reading the short story I found myself after reading the first page confused and having to read it over again twice. Was Gregor on some kind of drug and woke up still on it? Was it all a dream for him? or was he in some kind of coma that he though mentally that he was a beetle and this is what he was hearing and thinking while he was laying in bed? I don't see in any way possible that a health man can wake up one day a turn into a beetle. I can clearly see that his family rely on him to keep the family and the house functioning. Also that there is some issues between Gregor and his father. (also seen in many of the other stories that Kafka has made) Gregor is a very important aspect of this family and with out him working as being a sales man the family can not continue to live the life that they are living now. Gregor and his father have some under lining issues that are not really addressed in the story but we are shown that they have something going on between them. He shoves his son with a broom back into the room while he is in his beetle form and he attacks him with apple from his pockets, causing an apple to hurt Gregor and damage his "shell" The only one that seem to care for Gregor is his sister, that feeds and takes care of his needs even though she is frightened by his appearance. Over all its an interesting story that I still do not have a great understanding of why he he woke up as a beetle. It really makes me think what was Kafka is really trying to tell his readers.
