Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 204 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

A Report to an Academy
"A Report to an Academy" by Franz Kafka was a short story that I found similarly strange to how "The Metamorphosis" was. In it, there is an ape that used to live in Africa that became more and more like a human over time. The ape developed human-like traits such as being able to speak, the capacity to change, and to think logically for his own survival. My initial thoughts towards the end of the story were about how the ape could have developed this capacity to become different than other apes and if there was any possible way, could the ape revert back to his old ways in the wild. The moral of the story appears to answer the question "what makes us human?" Although, it doesn't matter whether the living thing is a human or not, as long as they have the ability to mature, change, think and speak like other human beings they still do have the traits that makes somebody human.
