Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 204 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

The Country Doctor
Even though "The Country Doctor" by Kafka was a very short story, it was complex and many events occured throughout the story that were a bit confusing. From the very beginning, it was hard to tell what was real or unreal. It was already absurd that the doctor was incapable of finding a horse to carry out his job of helping a patient in need out in the country and then ends up finding one inside of a pigsty. As the story progressed, it began to become clear that the story was going back and forth between the past and present and certain people in the story like the patient may not have existed and everything was just based on the doctor patting himself on the back because he felt he was simply being abused as a doctor as though he was a pastor. By the end, it's obvious that the doctor is not in the real world and that everything that took place was because of one mistake he made which was leave to the patient since the doctor feels he is not appreciated for the job he does.
