Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 204 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

A Report to an Academy

After reading the start of the story, my image of the ape  was that he was transformed from ape to human. Once I completed the story I realized the ape was just an ape with human like skills that society had accepted. The ape was definitely not portrayed as your typical ape, in the story he is very intelligent. Maybe even more intelligent then the men who kept him hostage. All he had to do was spit, shake hands, and drink liquor to impress them. The ape pretended to be who the men wanted him to be in order to be "free". The ape knew what he had to do to get out of the cage, and he did just that. He got out. The apes story is very similar to slaves who were stolen, imprisoned, and forced  to live by  European principals and guidelines. I believe the ape played the part that the audience wanted to see, even after he was freed from the cage.
