Foreshadowing

The author uses a child's perspective that doesn't really understand everything that goes on so seeing it from their eyes give unexpected responses and reasoning's that are humorous. The pastor made it sound like she was destined to be evil and corrupt so the author expects this character at some point take a dramatic turn in events. Jeanette’s mother is much like the people in the church. Very judgmental when it comes to others and she seems to care a lot about what other people say about her and her family.
