Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 204 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Carpenter's Gothic -- Continued Class Discussion: Liz's "Novel"

Chapter 1 Question: One thing you learned from this reading that you didn't know before:

In my last blog entry, I was asking about the paragraph on page 95 because I was really lost. But since we discussed it today in class, I got a better understanding of it. We read today in class about Liz's novel she was creating at one point in her life, her spelling errors, and the bigger picture, her fantasizing about a different life she wished to have. It all sparked up for her after her meeting with Mr. McCandless on the bottom of page 63, and came back to it again later on in the chapter on page 95.

  1. That discussion in class really bettered my understanding too. It was more confusing the fact that there were so many spelling errors, I was starting to think that they might have been typos but it's interesting to see why the author did that like it was more meaningful and proved a point.
