In this section of the story (101-113) Paul is having an important conversation with Bobby Joe, Mr. Ude's son. (I think) The conversation between Paul and Bobby Joe is definitely frustrating Paul. It seems like Bobby Joe is the wrong person for Paul to have this discussion with, but is the only person Paul can speak to at the moment. Paul is irritated with Bobby Joe, but hes lashing out at Liz. Paul is being as patient as he can with Bobby Joe. He tries to get as much information through to him as possible. It sounds like whatever Paul is planning is fallacious. The rage he has with Bobby Joe is going towards Liz, he keeps bossing her around during the conversation. Whatever he's planning for Mr. Ude, Paul doesn't seem to believe in it himself. He's trying his hardest to make the plan work regardless. After the conversation between Paul and Bobby Joe, Paul ask Liz for help. Liz tells him she wants to visit Cettie in the hospital, but he continuously tries to throw the idea under the rug, instead he begs Liz for help with his scheme. He needs her to be patient and understanding but wont do the same for her. For me the most important point in this section was Paul blatantly treating Liz like she's "stupid" but, she definitely proved him wrong when she "remembered" the color tie he was supposed to be wearing to the meeting right before he ran out the door. Liz is smarter than he thinks. I feel Liz plays stupid with Paul. I believe if Liz showed Paul how smart she really is, Paul would take advantage of her/ use her. Liz is well aware of it too. My theory about the chipped cup is, Liz gives it to him on purpose, clearly he never goes to get his own, so she gives Paul the chipped cup every time.
