Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 204 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Carpenter's Gothic

From what I have read so far, I find it difficult to read and to understand, But after re-reading what I have read I have a better understanding. The book plays around with different people talking at different times and interrupting each other. It feels as if some of it should have been written as a play so that the reader could have a better way of following along throughout the novel. I feel that the author has created the book like this so people take more time to read and go into a deeper understanding of what is really going on throughout the novel and the different things that it touches upon. The scene that we have read it class clearly shows me that there is not only a barrier between me and the book and understanding it but also between the character and and there everyday lives. From the languages that they speak to someone times not really speaking and living in the same house-hold as someone else.
