Why are there so many child molesters in this story? What do Mr. Henry, Soaphead Church, and Cholly have to do w/ each other?
What do you make of Soaphead Church's letter to God (176-182)? He writes, "...it is b/c I weep for You that I had to do your work for You" (180). Why does he weep for God? What is God's work that Church does?
Who is Pecola talking to on pp 193-204? Who is the italicized speaker?
Try to make some final comments about the novel. How was reading it for you compared to the previous two books of fiction?

ReplyDeleteI believe that that there are so many child molesters in this story because of the poverty and misconduct in the neighborhood. People didn't...
ReplyDeleteFor the three men all that I think they have in common and that they all encountered Pecola, they all had an impact on her in some way. I agree with Shaq, there are so many child molesters because of the situation that everyone is in. They are poor and they have notting better to do. The whole section with soaphead, was very confusing to me, I think that he is part of the church because of something that happened in his past. I think he weeps for god and writes all of the letter to him because he himself needs forgiveness. When Pecola is talking to someone I think that she has just hit rock bottom, I think she is talking to her self and she has truly gone mental. She went through a lot a such a young age. Dealing with her family, he father and mother always righting. Her brother running away. Not living really in a stable house, belittling herself because she though she was ugly. Being raped by her father and the people at school (the boys) bulling her. I like this novel a lot. I like how the two girls really cared for Pecola, they had such an innocence but at the same time they where mature. I thought it was really sweet how they gave up there seeds that they where selling for there bikes to "help" pecolas baby. They thought that all the bad the people where talking about her would help if they prayed over the seeds that they planted and go would make the baby live and not die if they grew. Overall i found myself wanting to read more and more and when it came to an end, I was sad.
