My reaction to the second half of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Phillip K. Dick was that I believe that Rick is a human. My opinion changed because of his relationship with Rachael Rosen. While he is spending time with Rachael, he starts to have feelings towards her, despite the fact that she is an android. He even has sex with her. This shows that Rick has empathy towards androids, something that he has never felt before. This is enough proof to show that Rick is a human because androids cannot feel empathy. If Rick was an android, he wouldn't have cared as much about Rachael and would not have stated that he was in love with her.
I was also slightly disappointed with the ending because I thought that when he went to retire Roy, there was going to be a big fight like in the movie "Blade Runner". Instead all he did was use his laser and retired all of the androids in Isadore's apartment. I also was very confused as to why Rick went to the desert after retiring the androids, was he angry about Rachael killing his live goat that he couldn't face his wife. Another thing in the book that confused me was when rick went to the desert, he said that he had become Mercer. I believe he became Mercer because he had went crazy after he retired the androids and because of his strong feelings for Rachael and that he couldn't do his job anymore because he didn't want to kill anyone like Rachael.
