Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 204 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Blade Runner
This is the reason why I don't like when a remake of a book is done into a movie. The movie itself wasn't bad. If I had not read the book I believe I probably would have appreciated the movie more, but while watching it after reading Androids, I can't help but criticize. I understand not being able to incorporate every detail from the book but I feel as though a lot was token out of the movie that was part of the whole concept of the book. Mercerism and the whole importance of animal ownership is what the book really evolved around but yet was never mentioned in the movie. It had an excerpt with Luba who wasn't even "Luba" in the movie, where Rick asks her whether the snake was real or not, but that was it. I didn't understand this at all because in the book Rick in a way based his life and did all that killing just to own a better and real animal. Other than the main topics not being included, there was no Iran, or Imgard. The whole scene about the other Police station was left out. Which means Phil and Garland were not included either. Roy kills the android maker and dies of nominee time left in the movie, instead of being killed by Rick. And the whole ending including Rachels whole character to me was different in the movie as well which I did not appreciate. In the movie Rick and Rachel basically fall in love and run off together, and the audience is left hanging with an ending scene of a paper unicorn being left outside of Ricks door by a guy that wasn't even in the book. Whereas in the bookRachel basically turns on Rick and double crosses him and Rick has this whole enlightenment with Mercer. All in all I just believe the movie was decent but had potential to be so much better.

I can agree, the book is always so much better then the remake. I felt that the book was so much more grabbing then the movie. The movie itself I though was badly put together and it had me extremely confused for most of the time that I was watching. It switched around between so many scene compared to the book. What confused me the most was the Asian man, in his frozen place with all the eye balls. I did not see how this made any scene and was relevant to the movie at all.
