Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 204 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start conversations before we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Androids Part 2

After reading the second half of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" I assumed that the ending would have some similarity to how the movie "Blade Runner's ending was with the fight but the ending of the novel revealed that Rick retired all of the androids from Isadore's apartment which was somewhat disappointing. However, I enjoyed the overall development of Rick's character since he opens himself up to Rachel far more and realizes that not every human on the planet expresses empathy and can actually be more similar to androids than originally imagined, Resch killing for no reason at all would be a perfect example. Even the androids themselves were more capable of expressing empathy than certain humans like Resch and this only made finding out who was an android that much more difficult. I believe that Rick is wholeheartedly a human because of how his feelings and character change over the course of the novel and even until the very end when the androids were retired and he wanted nothing to do with killing others that looked similar to his loved ones ever again.
